A breakthrough for POC diagnostics
The ability of MIAtek® to analyze a cross sectional area without interference makes possible an innovative format.
The common lateral flow test is limited to the amount of target contained in the thickness of the test strip. Unlike these surface-restricted detection approaches, MIAtek® can quantify the amount of target in a comparatively large cross-sectional area. The MIAflo® format makes use of this ability to screen larger sample volumes, thus lowering the LOD and accuracy for low threshold detection.
The MIAflo® format utilizes a cylindrical solid phase built into a syringe. Immunoconcentration occurs in the diffusion media and the analyte is contained in the capillary. No visual interpretation is required to obtain a test result. Sample prep and assay complexity are reduced.
For bacterial targets, the inherent concentration of sample can reduce or eliminate the time of the culture phase. Assays carried out on Legionella pneumophila exhibit a detection threshold around 1,000 bacteria. The ability to bypass the culture phase reduces the time to result from days to minutes.
MIAflo® is simple and robust, offering integrated concentration and detection into a single vessel.
